As a person with successful dual careers (music and law), I have previously struggled with separating my music career from my legal career, mistakenly thinking that they were separate paths on separate journeys. In the early 90s, as I began to flourish in my music career while beginning to develop my legal career, I thought that my music career was counter to my law practice and that I had to be distinctly different people in each respective career. I could not have been more wrong. As I continued on my life's journey, I slowly came to realize that, though my two careers present different demands and challenges, what is constant about both careers is what I bring to them as a complete and well-rounded individual. The experiences I have had and skills I have acquired in both careers are what make me uniquely me and I can relax in the comfort of knowing that, as I embrace my uniqueness and my gifts, I am able to share my story and my journey with others who not only are interested in my total experience, but also can relate to my journey by reflecting on their own personal and professional experiences.

Recently, I had an amazing opportunity to share my story, my journey, my song of merging my passion and dream with my colleagues, friends and team members at my day job in Corporate America. Through my one-woman show titled, "Timeless: My Journey, My Song," I took these Corporate Americans on a journey, through monologue, song, and up-close and intimate stories of my life as a Grammy-winning performing artist and a successful corporate attorney. My message:  We are divinely empowered to be masters of our own fate.  We do not have to be afraid to step outside the box to achieve whatever it is we are willing to invest the time, energy and emotion into making a reality for us. We might not have all the answers, but rest assured that every experience has its season.  But if we persevere with vision, intention and a made up mind, we can get the job done.

And so, after years of vacillation between music and law, in one glorious evening on December 15, 2011, music and law, passion and dream, corporate and entertainment merged. And people connected -- cried together, laughed together, reminisced and reflected together—and, on that night, united on a shared journey. And life was grand, for art imitated life and life imitated art. And in the process, as one attendee so eloquently stated, “I felt like I made a friend." This is my journey. This is my song.

Enjoy Your Journey,

Core'

Many of us embrace the notion of reviving music with meaningful lyrics, beautiful melodies and powerful messages. I call it "timeless music," which is relevant to us, not because of what the record labels or radio stations determine is "commercial," but because of the special connection that we have to that music because of the emotional moments it awakens in us. In fact, timeless music compels us to let our own personal stories determine for us what is musically "real" or "relevant," commercial trends notwithstanding. It says to us, "it's okay" to remember and embrace the moments of joy, pain, passion sorrow and life in general that for us are as real today as they were yesterday, as they are today and as they will be for tomorrows to come. Embrace YOUR music and let it carry you through your journey.

Enjoy the journey!

I am sooooo excited about the show!! There is so much positive and powerful energy around the making of TMJMS. Everyone is hard at work-- The Director, Sisters Cotton, my Mom, the Music Director, my hubby, my niece, my stepdaughter, --each doing their own thing to make this show come to life.  Friends and family are blasting invites on Facebook and today my friend Gregg blasted a promo to all his friends at work. (What gems!) And let me not forget a friend and colleague helped me find a GEORGEOUS dress yesterday! Frankly, I don't know much more love I can stand!!

Forever enjoying the journey,

Core'

Ok, folks--It's just around the corner and we are SO excited! Come on out and join The Sounds of Blackness at the production of The Night Before Christmas: A Musical Fantasy on Monday, December 13 at the Guthrie Theater (Hint: Santa is off the chain, lol.) I know many of you are en route from far and near and will have your faces in the place, so make some noise when you get there and let us know you're having a good time!

Well, I'm hard at work on the play, Gee's Bend, at the Park Square Theatre in St. Paul, MN. We've been hitting rehearsals hard since Sept 21 and have been in previews for the last week. (Grueling schedule, but oh so worth it!) Opening night is tomorrow! Wish me luck!!

Hubby and some friends are coming to opening night and the Chicago/Little Rock crew will rock the house closing weekend. Lo and Lil' Kahn are rockin' the Timeless CDs.

Much love, you guys, for your support!!

Hey Folks- Well, today I did the previously unthinkable, sang ("Over the Rainbow") before my peers at work at the General Counsel's Manager's Meeting.  The performance was generously received.  Talk about hitting close to home"-:)

Sisters Cotton ROCKED the studio this weekend on the Timeless Serenity tracks.  We recorded the song "Timeless Music," which is the theme song for the entire Timeless Music Series, and the song "Thank You, which is our classic gospel tune." You're gonna love this volume!

Shout out to producer Gary Hines, who continues to bring the right spirit to the Timeless Music Series. Mad thanks to G for getting us the VIP treatment at 7 Restaurant for our Sister Jo's birthday celebration. Happy B-Day Jody!  "Dont make me say..."LOL

Big props to Seven Restaurant for "giving Sisters Cotton the stage" at the birthday celebration and thanks for making us feel so special!

Mad luv,

Ko

Big ups to KDWD Radio for playing and commenting on "Stay."  I heard it on my way to work and, although the DJs mispronounced my name:-), it was great hearing the song and the great comments on the air!  Onwards and upwards, ya'll.

The reception for Timeless Romance has been outstanding! Top 3 so far have been "Stay," "Exclusively," and "For the Rest of All Time" (not necessarily in that order).

It has been so much fun listening to folks of different ages and backgrounds tell which song they like and why. One listener referred to "Stay" as "the panther song." Another predicted that this song would be the anthem of the west coast.  One listener said that she and her sister listened to the CD for FOUR CONSECUTIVE times and that each time she listened to it, she wished that "she had done some things differently." Yet another listener said he felt like the songs were written "just for him."  I love it!!

Hearing these and other comments is so, so satisfying! It continues to validate the "Timeless" concept-connecting folks of all ages with music that is relevant and personal to each individual in any era.

Keep the comments coming folks. They fuel the creative juices for Timeless volumes to come!

Mad love,

Core'

We made it! The Timeless, Volume I: Romance CDs were delivered on Friday, July 2, 2010 JUST IN TIME FOR THE LISTENING PARTY on the next day!

We had such a great time with a family and a few friends and associates listening together at the finished product.  An overall great day. The response to the CD was overwhelmingly positive. Some folk's favorite was "Stay." " Others were drawn to "Let it Be Me" (which received a round of applause after the first line). But, almost everyone loved "For the Rest of All Time" (particularly the newlyweds and others celebrating wedding anniversaries).

What a great day! Hours before the listening party, Sisters Cotton was in the studio working on tunes from Volume II and Volume III (the beat goes on...). The girls jammed!!

We closed out the night with a Champaign toast at home with hubby, mom and the Sisters.  Someone pinch me; I think I'm dreaming:-)

Alas!  As of Thursday, June 24 we have completed all post production (including mixing and mastering) and CD design for Timeless, Volume I: Romance!  I cannot adequately convey the excitement and relief I feel at this point.

All involved-producers, engineers, graphics designer, KoCo Advisory Board of Directors, and even the maufacturer-are STILL working vigorously to get the final completed package in hand (mine) by Friday, July 2 (just in time for our listening party on the following Saturday.)

Even as we come close to the finish line, there continue to be little "hiccups" (e.g. timely courier deliveries, last-minute forms to be completed, etc.) that threaten our timeline, but we will NOT be defeated!

Keep sending those positive vibes for us to successfully cross the finish line and STAY TUNED for the victory shout at that finish line!
